Why I Wiped Windows for CachyOS (And What Will Happen Next)
Adieu Windows !

Hey everyone! Welcome to linuxgaming.fr – my new battleground for Linux gaming adventures. I'm kicking things off with CachyOS, a distro I chose for its lightweight and the fact it's Arch-based.

I am Valentin and I am 25 years old. I'm dealing with Linux since I'm 12, and went into Windows for obvious gaming reasons. Yesterday, I went to my parents' house, to build a powerful PC with some parts I gave to my father that were useless to me as I upgraded my own setup. My father wanted Manjaro as OS as he likes to tweak and I spent the night into moving his data and settings from his old computer to the new one. Then I went back to my apartment, watched a movie, and went to sleep.

But I woke up with an idea. I've always said that I couldn't move back to Linux, as I consider myself as a very specific user. I've break like 50+ Linux in my teenage years, and I'm used to introduce weird things in my build (multiple components, software tweaking, etc). I am also a simracer sometimes (Thrustmaster T300RS), which I play exclusively in VR because I don't have 3 screens anymore and I just can't accept reducing my FOV to one single 16:9 screen and I have some accessories like the Elgato Streamdeck.

Those things are pretty easy to setup on Windows. Basically, you just have to plug them, maybe install the drivers, and that's it. There is enough difficulty in making VR works with a Windows PC, why would you bother messing up with a working build ?

Well I wanted to check it out, tired of Windows getting slower and slower over the time. I mean if I have to make a complete reinstall every year to get an OS that works "decently", because over the time that OS will receive updates and lose stability as it does with Windows 11, why couldn't I try with Linux ?

So, I tried to keep cool and install CachyOS on the same SSD drive I had Windows on. I SWEAR, there was NO WAY for me to resize my Windows partition... I ended up wiping it, after saving my important data. Yeah, I wiped everything, in one second. I have no regret, for now.

This is how it starts. I will come back here every time I'll have something to share to the world about how I solved any issue, from the easier to the issue that makes you spend three full nights to fix, in case that could help someone. So this "blog" or whatever you call it will be very specific, CachyOS-oriented, probably NVIDIA and AMD-CPU based.

But I am pretty sure that I am not the only user in this world on this architecture of computer, and very certainly trying to make CachyOS works perfectly on it.
